SALEM — A developer who wants to build 44 condominiums in Blubber
Hollow will face a critical audience Monday night: the neighbors.
Ward 6 Councilor Paul Prevey has scheduled a neighborhood meeting at
the Bates School to discuss Anthony Roberto's proposed development at
28 Goodhue St., which would include a mix of retail stores and residential
condos. Representatives from both the city and the developer will be on
hand to answer questions.
The proposal, the first test of the new North River Canal Corridor zoning,
has already proven controversial, with some residents arguing the city
does not need more condos. But the project has support from Mayor Kim
Driscoll, City Council President Jean Pelletier and the Planning Department.
The proposal is working its way through the approval process. Earlier
this month, the Planning Board approved a special permit for the project;
the Board of Appeals will take it up May 17.
